Christmas/New Years Letter

Through our prayers of what we needed to do we came upon an orphanage. apparently there are alot of them around here. We went out there the other day. When we came through the gate a little two girl ran toward me and wrapped her arms
around my legs. It warmed my heart. We went in an talked to the lady in charge she took us into the kitchen . There was two young boys doing the dishes. We asked her what the needs were she told us that the children needed shoes.
and food. The orphanage is funded by donations and gets some help from the governorment. But obiviously it's not enough. We noticed there were no toys. The building was old but clean. The sleeping quarters had alot of bunkbeds and there was mattresss on the beds and bedding we were happy about that. The children didn't look very happy.
There were no smiles. We asked the lady in charge what were the needs and she said they needed shoes and food. A couple days later we came back to the orphanage and brought a bunch of balls.
Now we see smiles. The kids had alot of fun playing soccer and throwing balls. There are three little
boys ages 4, 5, 7 they are brothers. There parents are alcoholics and don't take care of them. There
is a young boy about 5 and a sister in 7th grade. They have been there four years both of there parents
have died. Alot of the parents here die of Aids or tuberculos. We don't know the other kids situation.

Everyday we are reminded how blessed we are to have had the privelege of being born and have
lived in the greatest country on earth. The U>S>A>

We want you all to know how thank-ful we are for the birth of our savior. If it wasn't for his birth We
wouldn't  have the atonement to save us. We want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year.                             Love Elder and Sister Van Sickle
